The seventh lake, the lowest in chain is situated at an altitude of about 1800 meters above the sea level, the first and the uppermost, at 2100 m. The size of the lakes decreases with increasing altitude, as well as the temperature of the water in them. Due to a significant difference in heights, the Karakol Lake system covers a wide range of natural and climatic zones. The lower lakes are surrounded by mountain cedar taiga massifs, above the forest level the trees give way to alpine meadows with a wide variety of flowers. In vicinity of smallest upper lakes flora and fauna belongs to the high mountain tundra. The lakes are connected with each other by streams and are located at distances of 300-800 meters from each other. You can ascent from the lower lake to the upper lake on foot in a couple of hours.
